HONDA TRIUMPHS AGAIN AT RED DOT DESIGN AWARDS

  • Honda claims four Red Dot Product Design Awards across automobile and motorcycle ranges for the fourth consecutive year
  • All-new Honda Civic e:HEV and Civic Type R recognised by Red Dot jury for outstanding design and innovation
  • Wins for European designed CB750 Hornet and XL750 Transalp models mark recognition for Honda’s motorcycle business
  • The four Product Design Awards achieved in 2023 takes Honda’s total to thirteen in four years.

Honda has won two honours at the 2023 Red Dot Design Awards, for the all-new Civic e:HEV and for the Civic Type R. Honda also celebrated a further two Red Dot Design Awards wins, for the CB750 Hornet and XL750 Transalp motorcycles.

The Red Dot Design Awards are an internationally sought-after distinction, recognising outstanding product design that is aesthetic, functional, smart or innovative. Selected by a panel of 50 international experts that tests and evaluates each entry, the winners reflect the latest technical, social, economic and ecological requirements of consumers.

“This year, Honda celebrates its 75th anniversary, and to receive multiple Red Dot Design Awards in the Product Design category for the fourth year in a row, across our automobile and motorcycle product ranges, is fantastic and testament to our development processes. We believe in a unique human-centred approach to design and usability, and it is gratifying to see that focus reflected in the continued recognition for Honda at the Red Dot Design Awards,” said Toshinobu Minami, Chief Operating Officer, Design Center, Honda R&D Co. Ltd. “These accolades are testament to our design and R&D teams that are responsible for our products, and who place the users – our customers – at the heart of their work. Honda will continue to create designs that can bring ‘excitement’ to its future products, while carrying on with this human-centred approach.”

The all-new Civic e:HEV hatchback followed a development ethos of ‘Exhilarating Civic’,  focussing on how the exterior and interior packaging can work together to create a more comfortable and refreshing in-car experience that will enhance owners’ everyday lives. The latest model to adopt Honda’s noiseless, elegant design direction, the new Civic features a longer wheelbase, a lower, sleeker roof line, and a lower belt line that increases the glasshouse. This not only improves outward visibility, but also delivers the same sense of space and airiness experienced inside the original Civic.

Honda’s long standing ‘Man-Maximum, Machine-Minimum’ (M/M) development principle has resulted in a user focused yet modern design with particular attention paid to colours, high-quality materials, and tactile touchpoints to enhance the user experience. Clever packaging of the hybrid system within the chassis ensures that despite the sporty silhouette, interior space is not compromised.

Developed under the model concept of creating the “Ultimate Sports 2.0”, the new Civic Type R enhances the sleek and sporty silhouette of the standard model, adding wider arches, wide flow-formed 19” wheels, aggressive track-focused styling and a functional rear wing that produces genuine downforce. Internally, the new Type R pays homage to its iconic predecessors, featuring red carpet and figure-hugging sports seats, along with a new metal teardrop weighted shift and a bespoke digital dialset.

On two wheels, the CB750 Hornet motorcycle also took home a product design award. The revived nameplate sits atop a middleweight naked sport bike that takes inspiration from its ancestor, featuring a brand new 755cc parallel twin-cylinder engine, cradled by a brand-new lightweight steel-diamond frame. Honda’s design team in Rome penned the CB750 Hornet as a new, contemporary expression of technical beauty with sharp lines and aggressive angles. The main signature of the Hornet is the fuel tank, which takes inspiration from the shape of a hornet’s wing and typifies the muscularity and athleticism associated with Streetfighter style motorcycles.

In addition, the XL750 Transalp received top honours from the Red Dot jury. Marking a return of the Transalp name to Honda’s motorcycle line-up after nearly a decade, the XL750 Transalp brings the comfortable do-it-all crossover to a new generation of riders. Built around the same all-new 755cc parallel twin-cylinder engine as the Hornet, it faithfully references the iconic 1986 original XL600V Transalp but with an unmistakeably modern look, thanks to the sculpted fairing and screen that work together to reduce buffeting and increase weather protection. Sleek, simple, and clean, the iconic long-legged stance remains, projecting the adventurous intent for which the bike is renowned.

This year’s accomplishments bring the number of Red Dot Design Awards won by Honda to 13 since 2020, including a ‘Best of the Best’ accolade for the Honda e in 2020. Both it and the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP have since been inducted into the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany, one of the world's most significant exhibitions of contemporary design.

(Note that bike availability will differ from one event to another. Customers are advised to speak to their local dealer in advance of the event to check availability and to pre-book.)

Away from the test rides, Suzuki staff will be on hand to provide information on the firm’s full range of models and current offers and incentives. Honda Racing UK unveils its new livery for the 2023 racing season

Honda Racing UK is pleased to release its new racing livery for its 2023 assault on the Bennetts British Superbike Championship and the International Road Racing season, where it will participate in both the North West 200 and the Isle of Man TT races. As recently announced, on board the Fireblade will be Andrew Irwin and Tom Neave competing in the British Superbike Championship and John McGuinness MBE and Nathan Harrison for the roads programme.

This year’s livery is heavily influenced by the road going production machine, the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP and closely follows the Grand Prix Red colour scheme.

The team is hoping to build on last year’s success, with the Fireblade achieving multiple wins at the NW200, the fastest newcomer award at the TT, regular podiums and wins in BSB on its way to second in the championship standings. Meanwhile, in Superstock trim the ‘blade’ has now secured back-to-back championship victories in the Pirelli National Superstock championship.

Preparations for the 2023 season are well underway, with official BSB testing set to commence at the Navarra Circuit in northern Spain on 11-13 March. For those wanting to see the latest livery in the flesh for the first time, the race bike will be on display at Youles Motorcycles Honda Manchester as part of their dealership open evening on the 22nd February. In attendance will be 23-time TT & 6-time NW200 winner John McGuinness MBE.

Havier Beltran, Honda Racing UK Team Manager:

“2023 is going to be an exciting season for the team as we have a mixture of new and old faces returning to the team. We are also now into the third year of development with the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP and we’ll look to continue building on the success that we have experienced to date. Continuing our relationship with all our valued sponsors enables us to resume this journey. We look forward to getting the season underway and working together as a team to realise the potential of the Fireblade on the roads and in BSB”

Neil Fletcher, Head of Motorcycles, Honda UK:

“We are delighted to release our new racing livery for the 2023 season as we aim to continue competing for the positions that we know the Fireblade is capable of. It is also fantastic to renew our relationships with our trusted sponsors who continue to support us in our racing endeavours in British Superbikes and on the roads. We have a busy testing program ahead of us before the season gets underway in April and then the racing will come thick and fast. I’m excited to see how the Fireblade performs with another year of development under its belt.”

Yamaha launches the Ténéré Spirit Experience for 2023

The ultimate Rally Raid Adventure for every Ténéré owner!

Launched in 2019, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 has opened up an exciting new world of freedom and adventure for over 40,000 European riders. With its high torque CP2 engine, agile handling and serious long range capabilities over virtually any terrain, the Ténéré 700 is the most versatile motorcycle ever produced by Yamaha.

Built with the same rugged DNA as the original Yamaha XT bikes that won the very first Dakar Rally – and went on to challenge for the podium in the world’s toughest event for over 40 years – the Ténéré unleashes a rider’s spirit of adventure and enables everyone to discover what is beyond the next horizon.

As well as being the definitive adventure bike for riders looking for a lightweight round the world machine, the Ténéré has proved its outstanding Rally performance in 2022 with Ténéré World Raid Team’s legendary rider Alessandro Botturi winning the Tunisia Desert Challenge. Teammate Pol Tarrès made off-road history by taking his Yamaha Ténéré 700 further than any other 2-cylinder machine at the Erzberg Rodeo.

By bringing together the worlds of Touring, Rally and Enduro like no other machine, the Ténéré is undoubtedly the most outstanding Adventure model ever built by Yamaha.  Now we stand before a new horizon, bringing customers closer to the true meaning of the word Ténéré and coming within a very short reach of actual Rally Racing. Yamaha has created a whole new immersive Ténéré Spirit Experience that opens up even more possibilities for Ténéré Riders with the same hunger for more adventure and our dedication to Riders for Health.

New Ténéré Spirit Experience for 2023

Yamaha is totally committed to ensuring that every rider is given the chance to enjoy their Ténéré to the full in a diverse range of riding situations. For 2023 Yamaha is introducing the exclusive new Ténéré Spirit Experience in which Ténéré owners can join some of the world’s most famous Rally Raid events, with the official Yamaha World Raid Team.

A total of 20 Yamaha customers and their motorcycles will be transported to their chosen Rally Raid where they will follow both the actual route and a parallel route to the race competitors and live alongside the race team in the bivouac each evening. For many riders this will be a once in a lifetime experience that will live in their memories forever, and for others it may ignite a desire to compete in Rally Raid in the future.

Run by former Enduro champion and Dakar Racing Team manager Marc Bourgeois through his company MBSM on behalf of Yamaha, the Ténéré Spirit Experience is open to Yamaha Ténéré owners who want to take their adventure riding to another level and get a real taste of Rally Raid but without the intense pressure of competition while also being able to experience the beauty the landscapes provide.

Total package from start to finish

Ténéré Spirit Experience is a total 360 degrees package that is designed to cover every aspect of the preparation, flights, bike transportation and every aspect of participation in the customer’s chosen Rally Raid. Before the event each rider can choose to attend a Ténéré Experience Centre* if they want to get tuition on their riding or navigation skills, and MBSM will take care of everything else from start to finish – including daily pre-event briefings, logistics, technical assistance, GPS tracker fitment, breakfast, dinner and camping.

Suitable for standard Ténéré models

Customers will be riding their own machine at the Ténéré Spirit Experience events, but they don’t need to worry about making too many modifications. MBSM technicians will equip every bike with special wheels and tyres as well as navigation equipment prior to the ride – and in some cases the participant’s Ténéré will also be required to be fitted with an extra fuel tank for specific events.

Join the Ténéré World Raid Team at four legendary events for 2023

The team of Marc Bourgois (MBSM) will take charge of both the Racing organisation and the Customer program under the umbrella of the Ténéré World Raid Team. Allowing for seamless integration of true racing spirit and customer experience.

The 2023 Ténéré Spirit Experience includes four of the most famous Rally Raid events, starting with the Morocco Desert Challenge in April, followed by the Hellas Rally in May. After the summer break the TSE and TWRT continue with Transanatolia in September and conclude with the Tunisia Desert Challenge in October.

Ténéré Spirit Experience riders will be sharing the bivouac with Ténéré World Raid Team riders Alessandro Botturi and Pol Tarrès who will be competing at selected events – and there will also be extra top level guest riders joining various races.

*MBSM Ténéré Centres in France and Morocco, plus the YORE Ténéré Experience in Wales

With a number of MBSM Ténéré Centre locations in France and Morocco, plus the YORE Ténéré Experience in Wales, riders can take additional off-road training as well as develop their navigation skills. Yamaha’s bLU cRU Program Wins 2022 FIM Award for the Future

Yamaha Motor Europe’s bLU cRU program was recognised for its contribution to encouraging youngsters into the world of motorcycling during the recent Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Awards Ceremony in Rimini, Italy, where the program won the prestigious Award for the Future.

The FIM Award for the Future is aimed at rewarding those who have contributed to improving and developing the presence of youngsters in all motorcycling related activities through opportunities at national or international level, promoting role models and developing mentoring programmes, creating new competitions and classes or innovations dedicated specifically to youngsters.

The bLU cRU program was shortlisted for the award alongside several other initiatives, which have all contributed to providing opportunities to youngsters both nationally and internationally.

The FIM recognised Yamaha Motor Europe for their contribution in 2022, a year in which more than 400 young riders were part of the bLU cRU program across both road and off-road disciplines, all benefiting from coaching, technical support, and an opportunity to further their racing careers.

Set-up in 2016, the bLU cRU program was created to provide young riders an opportunity to take the next step in their racing careers with support from Yamaha. Starting with the YZ bLU cRU Cup, in 2017 riders could enter three classes around various national championships in Europe: YZ65, YZ85 and YZ125. The top 120 performers would then be selected to take part in the YZ SuperFinale, where they would battle for a spot in the prestigious Masterclass. There, riders would be judged on their performances, with the winners of each class earning support for the following season.

In 2019, Yamaha expanded into road racing, supporting riders within the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship class. Those that impressed would earn promotion to the FIM Supersport World Championship with support from Yamaha. In 2021, Yamaha Motor Europe then introduced the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup, which supports rounds of the FIM Superbike World Championship. The overall winner then receives full support for their WorldSSP300 campaign the following season, kickstarting their journey to the pinnacle of motorcycle road racing.

Yamaha Motor Europe would like to thank the FIM for this award, as well as all the other nominees for their fantastic work in creating opportunities for young and aspiring riders.

Eric de Seynes, President and CEO, Yamaha Motor Europe:

“Firstly, I would like to thank Mr. Jorge Viegas and the FIM for recognising our bLU cRU program with the prestigious Award for the Future. To accept the trophy on behalf of Yamaha Motor Europe at the FIM Awards, an event that honours the elite of motorcycle sport, was a proud moment. Yamaha races across many disciplines and many classes, and we obviously race to win, but that isn’t our only goal.
As a manufacturer we also have a responsibility to safeguard the future of our sport by making it accessible to the next generation of racers and to ensure, by supporting the riders and their families, that real talent can be identified and nurtured. This is the philosophy of the bLU cRU, and it is this approach that has allowed World Champions like Maxime Renaux and Alvaro Diaz to realise their full potential within the Yamaha Racing family.
However, the bLU cRU isn’t limited to youngsters with World Championship aspirations, it’s also aimed at those that race purely for fun. Events like the YZ bLU cRU SuperFinale see our youngsters racing alongside their heroes, making memories that will last them a lifetime. I am immensely proud of our bLU cRU program, and I would encourage other manufacturers to consider something similar in the future. We can compete on track, but when it comes to securing the future of the sport, we need to work together.”

Young riders can now sign up for the 2023 bLU cRU Program on the links below.

New TRACER 9 GT+ Sport Touring model from Yamaha

Image

New TRACER 9 GT+ Sport Touring model from Yamaha

Ride at the cutting edge

Yamaha Sport Touring models give riders across the globe the chance to live their dreams and explore the roads of life whenever they feel the need to escape from the everyday realities. Whether it’s a weekend break or an ambitious long distance tour, the TRACER 9 range has the performance, comfort and versatility to satisfy every rider’s lust for travel.

The very special formula of a high-torque 890cc CP3 engine, lightweight aluminium chassis, natural ergonomics and a luggage-ready design makes sure that these bikes are ready to get up and go whenever required.

Now Yamaha are ready to take the TRACER concept into an exciting new dimension with the most sophisticated Sport Tourer ever manufactured by the company. Building on the strengths of the existing models, the new TRACER 9 GT+ comes with a range of best-in-class technology that is designed to transform every ride by providing a previously unimaginable degree of versatility and control.

Featuring fully integrated cutting edge electronics including a millimetre wave radar, Adaptive Cruise Control, radar-linked Unified Brake System, electronic suspension and intelligent riding modes – as well as connected TFT instruments and fully integrated for Garmin navigation – the new TRACER 9 GT+ is ready to introduce a new era of control that will take the Sport Touring experience to the next level.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

TRACER 9 GT+ is the first Yamaha to be equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and this advanced new system offers all the advantages of cruise control together with the ability to automatically maintain a fixed distance from the vehicle ahead.

With a conventional cruise control system if the rider is getting closer to a vehicle in front, they need to deselect the system or apply their brakes – which automatically disengages the system. However, with the new ACC system an inbuilt millimetre wave radar constantly measures the distance from the vehicle immediately ahead of the TRACER 9 GT+. The ACC automatically controls cruising speed, deceleration and acceleration to suit the road situation as it evolves.

The ACC is adjustable, and when the machine is in motion its rider can select one of four different following distance options to suit their individual preferences, displayed as one bar for shortest following distance, and four bars for the longest following distance. ACC offers a number of advantages, including reducing rider fatigue by requiring fewer rider inputs, as well as ensuring improved ride quality by maintaining a constant following distance, and also promoting smooth traffic flow.

When the ACC system is active the new 7-inch TFT meter displays a green icon (with grey for standby) and shows between 1 and 4 white bars beneath a car icon to confirm the selected following distance. When the ACC determines that the rider is too close to the vehicle in front or if it senses that the machine’s current acceleration/deceleration status will soon lead to the rider getting too close, rider intervention request icon appears on the meter to notify the rider that appropriate action is required to avoid following too close.

ACC operates between 30 km/h and 160 km/h – in 1st & 2nd gears from 30 km/h, in 3rd & 4th gears from 40 km/h, and in 5th & 6th gears from 50 km/h. Speed can be increased and decreased in either 1 km/h or 10 km/h increments by pushing once or holding down the adjustment switch. ACC is deactivated by braking or gripping the clutch lever for more than 1 second, or rolling forward the throttle twist grip, beyond the throttle stop.

This easy to understand ACC status is shown in all screen modes including navigation mode and provides an additional rider aid that is designed to enhance the riding experience, particularly on busy highways.

Additional ACC functions

As well as maintaining a pre-selected following distance, ACC also features ‘cornering assist’ whereby it inhibits speed increases when the system detects that the machine is cornering, and if the radar detects a vehicle ahead it will also limit the level of acceleration when following.

The ACC’s ‘passing assist’ accelerates the TRACER 9 GT+ more smoothly than normal when it senses that the bike’s flasher is turned on and the motorcycle is performing an overtaking manoeuvre.

ACC is also integrated with the engine, and electronic suspension, and in order to maintain the pre-selected distance to the vehicle ahead, the engine braking and brakes are activated – in that order – to slow the bike. At the same time the electronic suspension’s damping force is adjusted to reduce excess pitching when brakes are applied to maintain chassis stability.

With its ability to intervene automatically and adjust levels of speed, throttle opening, engine braking, braking and suspension when following a vehicle – as well as when cornering and overtaking – the sophisticated ACC provides a natural and seamless riding experience. Used for the very first time on a Yamaha, this best-in-class electronic technology takes highway comfort to a whole new level.

The easy to operate ACC reduces the rider’s mental and physical inputs and gives enhanced comfort and convenience for an unrivalled ride quality, making the TRACER 9 GT+ Yamaha’s ultimate Sport Tourer.

Radar-linked front/rear assisted Unified Brake System

As the flagship model in Yamaha’s Sport Touring line, the TRACER 9 GT+ has been chosen to debut a range of innovative new best-in-class technology – including the motorcycling world’s first ever radar-linked Unified Brake System (UBS).

The new system is an active design that offers increased controllability by using data from the millimetre wave radar and the 6-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) to assist and regulate front and rear braking forces, via the Bosch hydraulic unit that optimises control and bias of the braking system.

There are three main elements to the radar-linked Unified Brake System that operate only when the BC (Brake Control) is turned ON. Firstly, brake assist intervenes when the system detects that a collision is imminent. Secondly, front/rear brake assistance adjusts braking forces to both wheels for stable deceleration. And thirdly, cornering brake control automatically adjusts braking force to inhibit tyre slippage when the machine is leaned over.

The radar-linked, Unified Brake System constantly analyses following distance data from the millimetre wave radar. If the system calculates that the rider’s braking inputs are insufficient to prevent a collision with the vehicle ahead it will increase brake pressure to the front and rear wheels to help slow the TRACER 9 GT+.

The previously described ACC system will also automatically slow the TRACER 9 GT+ when a pre-selected following distance is reached, but as soon as the rider applies the brakes the ACC is deactivated – and at this point the radar-linked Unified Brake System will intervene if it determines that the rider’s braking inputs are not sufficient to prevent a collision.

The system provides additional braking assistance and will only intervene when the BC is turned ON and the rider is braking – it is not a collision avoidance system.

The second element is the front/rear assisted Unified Brake System that adjusts front/rear braking force distribution. When only the front brake is used by the rider the hydraulic unit automatically applies braking force to the rear wheel, with the degree of intervention calculated using IMU data related to changes in acceleration and lean angle. When the only the rear brake is used the system will sometimes – but not always – apply additional braking force to the front wheel via the hydraulic unit depending on the brake pedal input and IMU data regarding the bike’s attitude.

The third element is the cornering brake control. This is in effect a ‘cornering brake control’ system that takes into account machine running data from the IMU and instantly adjusts the rider’s braking forces to inhibit tyre slippage.

The radar-linked Unified Brake System is linked to the electronic suspension, and as well as assisting and regulating front and rear braking forces it also adjusts front and rear suspension damping to maintain chassis stability. ABS always operates whether the BC is turned ON or OFF.

Millimetre wave radar

Both the new Adaptive Cruise Control and the radar-linked Unified Brake System use data from the new millimetre wave radar that detects the distance of the vehicle immediately ahead of the motorcycle. Weighing only 200g, this compact, integrated radar unit is situated behind a new protective cover at the front of the TRACER 9 GT+.

New 7-inch full colour TFT meter

TRACER 9 GT+ riders have a choice of three different screen themes with the new full-colour TFT high luminosity meter. Each screen theme is designed to convey a different feeling to suit different riding styles and varying personal preferences. With options giving a clean, contemporary look, a stripped down sports style with or a visual identity inspired by Yamaha’s Jin-Ki Kanno development ideal, there is a visual theme to suit each rider.

In all three meter themes the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is featured prominently, enabling riders to instantly see the system’s distance setting and selected cruising speed.

New smartphone connectivity

For an enriched riding experience smartphone connectivity comes as standard on the TRACER 9 GT+. A Communication Control Unit enables riders to link their smartphone with the machine using Yamaha’s free MyRide app. The connection can be made via USB*, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth®, and once connected the rider can view information on incoming calls, emails and messages on the TFT instruments. Riders and passengers can also listen to music and respond to calls with a Bluetooth®-connected headset*, adding a new dimension to every ride, whether long distance touring or commuting to work.

TRACER 9 GT+ riders can also view a range of menus and functions using the new ergonomic controls on the left handlebar, and when the bike isn’t moving its new high luminosity 7-inch TFT screen is able to display everything from weather reports to detailed notifications.

*Not included with the TRACER 9 GT+.

New Garmin full-screen navigation capability

Garmin full-screen navigation can be easily installed, all the rider needs to do is connect their smartphone via the free MyRide app and download the Garmin Motorise app**. A full-screen navigation window can be opened on the connected TFT instruments, and the TRACER 9 GT+ rider can select from a choice of different types of routes – such as fastest, shortest, highway and more – and spoken turn-by-turn directions can be sent to a paired Bluetooth®-connected headset*. Map data is downloaded to the smartphone and so the rider can still access navigation even when the smartphone signal may be temporarily lost in certain locations.

Navigation functions include real time traffic, estimated time of arrival, and alternative routes to avoid congestion. Other useful functions are the distance that can be ridden with the remaining fuel, and real time updates display local weather information as well as the weather situation at the chosen destination, and a weekly weather forecast.

Garmin Motorise also includes rider alerts that provide information on potential hazards such as sharp bends – and prevailing speed limits are displayed. There’s also a PhotoReal junction view that is automatically displayed in a split screen format when approaching a junction, giving information on the best lane to use for the next exit.

The Garmin Motorise app can be operated by a joystick and home button on the left handlebar while the machine is stationary – but the app is locked and cannot be operated when the motorcycle is moving.

*Not included with the TRACER 9 GT

New 3rd generation quickshifter integrated with ACC

Unlike conventional cruise control systems which disengage when a rider uses the clutch or shifts gear, TRACER 9 GT+ riders can change gear using the new 3rd generation quickshifter even when the ACC is active.

This new cutting edge Sport Tourer is the first Yamaha to be equipped with the 3rd generation quickshifter that gives an even wider range of functionality by allowing clutchless downshifts when accelerating and clutchless upshifts when decelerating. For example, if the rider is cruising with ACC active at 100 km/h in 6th gear and is then automatically slowed by a car in front, the rider can downshift to suit the reduced riding speed without the ACC disengaging. Similarly, when cruising downhill with ACC in a lower gear the rider can shift up to reduce engine braking without losing ACC.

In order to retain a natural riding feeling the 3rd generation quickshifter will not operate in certain situations where engine rpm is extremely low or high, and also when the machine is neither accelerating nor decelerating. In these circumstances the quickshifter icon on the new TFT instrument meter will indicate whether or not the quickshifter can be used, and once the speed or rpm is changed the system will resume operation.

Integrated KYB electronically controlled ‘KADS’ semi-active suspension

The TRACER 9 GT+ is equipped with the most advanced electronic control technology to be found on any production Yamaha motorcycle, underlining Yamaha’s commitment to the Sport Touring category. The new generation KADS (KYB Actimatic Damper System) electronically controlled suspension system has been developed jointly with KYB and is designed to provide exciting sports performance together with an extremely comfortable ride.

This fully integrated front and rear suspension system is governed by the 6-axis IMU which monitors various sensors and automatically adjusts the damping forces via the Hydraulic Unit (HU) and Suspension Control Unit (SCU). KADS can be set in Sport or Comfort mode and is able to adapt itself to a wide variety of riding styles by constantly adjusting damping forces to suit the prevailing riding conditions. By analysing IMU data including the bike’s lean angle and acceleration, this sophisticated suspension system delivers a high quality ride with unmatched roadholding and elevated feelings, providing levels of confidence that confirm the TRACER 9 GT+ as Yamaha’s ultimate Sport Tourer.

Like every other electronic system featured on this highly capable motorcycle, the KYB suspension is fully integrated to always ensure stable handling performance, and it operates in conjunction with the ACC, front/rear assist Unified Brake System, as well as the radar-linked Unified Brake System and brake control.

The electronically controlled suspension’s handling characteristics are also affected by the Integrated riding modes selection, and damping settings are instantaneously adjusted via a solenoid to achieve a smooth and comfortable ride in a variety of load and riding conditions.

Integrated riding modes

TRACER 9 GT+ benefits from a refined D-Mode (the engine character selection) that is now fully integrated with the machine’s 6-Axis IMU and comprehensive suite of lean-sensitive rider aids. Previously D-Mode (the engine character selection) has operated completely separately to the various electronically controlled rider aids which required individual adjustment.

This new system is more intuitive, being much easier to understand and use on-the-fly. The rider has the option to select one of four integrated riding modes options: ‘Sport’, ‘Street’, ‘Rain’ or ‘Custom’ – all of which now work in conjunction with the engine character selection (D-mode), the traction control, slide control, lift control and electronic suspension’s damping control to ensure enhanced controllability in a wide variety of riding situations.

The ‘Sport’, ‘Street’ and ‘Rain’ selectable options feature embedded factory settings with different intervention levels to suit different conditions, and these pre-set modes have been developed by Yamaha’s designers using feedback from test riders. The fourth ‘Custom’ option enables the rider to manually select their own intervention settings for the various electronically controlled rider aids, and save it as their tailored mode.

New ergonomic handlebar switch clusters

Newly designed handlebar switch assemblies employing a joystick and home button enable the rider to operate the wider range of functions, including smartphone connectivity and navigation. Both the right and left side clusters feature a clear, logical layout and simple design – and their ergonomic layout gives smooth thumb movement for easy and intuitive operation. The switch clusters are back-lit for easier identification and use in the dark.

Refined height-adjustable rider’s seat and new seat cover material

The height adjustable rider’s seat is upgraded with new padding and a revised shape for increased comfort. While a new leather-style cover is used to enhance the overall feeling of quality and pride of ownership of this flagship Sport Tourer. It’s now a more comfortable and refined place to spend a long day’s ride.

Larger diameter rear disc brake

For improved feel the rear brake diameter is increased by nearly 9% to 267mm, the rear caliper design is revised, and a new brake pedal as well as new clear smoke front and rear fluid reservoirs enhance the overall feeling of premium quality.

Lightweight CF aluminium die-cast frame

The TRACER 9 GT+ features a wide range of Yamaha-exclusive technology, including the aluminium die-cast main frame that has been manufactured using the company’s exclusive CF (Controlled Filling) system. This special system enables the construction of extremely light and strong frames with varying wall thicknesses – which gives an optimised rigidity balance for superior handling performance.

Unsprung weight is minimised with the use of a lightweight aluminium swinging arm, and the SpinForged wheels – also manufactured using a Yamaha-exclusive technology – not only help to enhance suspension action, but they also reduce the moment of inertia to make a significant contribution towards the machine’s light and agile handling character.

Full LED lighting and cornering lights

Lighting is a full LED system, and Yamaha’s sophisticated cornering lights are standard equipment on the TRACER 9 GT+. When the machine is travelling at 5 km/h or faster and the lean angle exceeds 7° the cornering lights automatically illuminate the inside of the turn – whether low or high beam is being used – giving a larger illuminated area of road

The perfect fit and high quality finish is second to none – and the appearance of this exceptional machine is further enhanced by the bronze coloured wheels and key body parts that reinforce its high end specification.

Enhanced electronic control technology

For the highest degree of controllability the NIKEN GT is equipped with a range of new electronics. A Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) and ride-by-wire Accelerator Position Sensor Grip (APSG) replace the previous model’s cable and pulley system to give a smooth and natural feel to the throttle. The starting acceleration assist system is also revised to provide a more natural level of intervention by automatically maintaining an appropriate rpm level when the clutch is engaged.

D-Mode settings are amended to work effectively with the new high torque 890cc engine, and the rider can select from ‘SPORT’ (direct throttle response), ‘STREET’ (smooth throttle response) and ‘RAIN’ (mild throttle response) settings. In ‘RAIN’ mode maximum power is reduced by 18% to ensure the rider experiences an easy to use engine character for a high degree of controllability.

The parameters of the NIKEN GT’s traction control system have also been adjusted to match the increased performance of the new engine, and the system offers three levels of intervention – with ‘1’ being the minimum and ‘2’ being the maximum, as well as an ‘OFF’ option. The degree of intervention of the traction control system is also automatically adjusted to match whichever D-Mode is selected to ensure that the rider maintains optimum control.

To match its long distance capabilities the NIKEN GT is also fitted with a cruise control system. The rider can activate the system when in 4th gear or higher and can adjust the speed in 2 km/h increments for greater convenience and comfort.

Full up & down quickshifter, A&S clutch

For effective acceleration the NIKEN GT’s new more powerful engine is fitted with a quickshifter, and the system on the 2023 model is upgraded to offer both up and down functions – whereas the previous model was upshift only.

Together with the new Assist and Slipper (A&S) clutch, the quickshifter helps to maintain the NIKEN GT’s high levels of stability when shifting gears and during acceleration and deceleration.

Refined main frame design

NIKEN GT’s unique main frame is a special design that features a cast steel head pipe assembly to accommodate the LMW front end, together with a tubular steel main frame and cast aluminium rear brackets. For 2023 key sections of the main frame have been redesigned to match the requirements of the new more powerful 890cc CP3 EU5 engine which is inclined forward by 5º to achieve optimum handling performance.

Revised rear suspension

To complement the redesigned frame and ensure an ideal stability balance with the LMW front end, NIKEN GT’s rear suspension layout is revised. An all-new rear shock linkage arm is manufactured from forged aluminium, saving 236g in unsprung weight compared to the previous steel component.

This new lightweight arm features a revised lever variance ratio which, together with new rear shock settings and a smaller diameter shock spring, provides a smoother solo ride and gives firmer and effective rear suspension performance when riding with a passenger.

Specially designed front tyres

The dual leaning front wheels are fitted with 15-inch radial tyres that have been specially developed to meet the particular requirements of the LMW front end steering assembly. With an optimised balance of rigidity and special compound the 120/17R15 front tyres and 190/55R17 rear tyre provide excellent handling performance together with enhanced feelings of stability and confidence associated with the Yamaha LMW system.

New intake and exhaust design

Every detail of the NIKEN GT has been evaluated and analysed in Yamaha’s mission to make it the ultimate high end long distance sport tourer, and for an even more relaxing and enjoyable journey the intake and air cleaner have been redesigned for a quieter ride. New R125: Yamaha’s highest specification Supersport lightweight

Image

Complete Supersport range from 125cc through to 1000cc

Incredibly it is exactly 25 years since Yamaha rocked the motorcycle world with the unveiling of the very first R1 in front of a stunned audience of journalists who could barely believe what Yamaha had created. With its ultra-lightweight, remarkably compact dimensions and class-leading power output, this iconic motorcycle represented the beginning of a truly amazing new era for Europe’s Supersport riders.

The arrival of the first R1 was just the beginning. R1M, R6, R3, R125 and more recently the R7 were to follow in its tyre tracks, each of them created in the image of R1 – the undisputed King of Supersport. By bringing genuine race bike technology and performance to the street, Yamaha’s R-Series models have been inspiring many thousands of riders for a quarter of a century.

Yamaha’s R-Series continues to set the agenda with the widest range of exhilarating Supersport models from 125cc through to 1000cc. With a winning track record in the world’s most prestigious racing championships, R-Series has established itself as the definitive family of high performance machines. And for 2023 the launch of the next generation R125 reaffirms Yamaha’s commitment to offering every rider the most exceptional high performance riding experience.

4th Generation R125: R-Connection

When Yamaha launched the very first R125 in 2008 it brought advanced Supersport design and technology to the 125cc A1 license class. Setting new standards for thrilling performance, handling agility and aggressive style, this best-in-class bike became an overnight success – and has maintained its position as the premiere high performance lightweight to this day.

During the past 15 years this iconic machine has consistently evolved to maintain its superstar status amongst performance minded riders who are looking for the ultimate race-developed motorcycle. Designed for young and uncompromising Supersport riders at the beginning of their relationship with the R-Series, R125 continues to show the way ahead.

Every Yamaha Supersport is developed with the same pure R-Series DNA that has made the flagship R1 the dominant bike in World and British Superbike racing. Race-bred technology is also evident throughout the 2023 R125, from the dynamic new body design through to its Deltabox frame technology and radial mount front brake caliper.

Featuring an instantly recognisable new face that is directly inspired by the R7 – and equipped with connected TFT instruments as well as a range of chassis refinements and new electronics – the 4th generation Yamaha R125 gives every rider a real taste of where R/World can take them.

Latest R-Series design

R125 gets a whole new look that underlines its status as Yamaha’s ultimate lightweight Supersport and reinforces the R-Series family ties that make it such a special motorcycle.

A powerful new bi-functional LED headlight sits centrally in the M-shaped nose and delivers a brilliant low and high beam for excellent vision and visibility. The headlight’s ultra-compact dimensions and low weight have enabled the fitment of a highly aerodynamic front cowling with R7-inspired LED position lights to give the R125 a radical new ‘big-bike’ appearance.

Featuring a more aggressive face as well as an aerodynamic new fairing and redesigned vented tank covers that convey the feeling of a strong horizontal flow, the all-new body transforms the appearance of the lightest Yamaha Supersport. This reshaped bodywork gives a fully coordinated and refined look that underlines this best-in-class bike’s status as the premium high performance 125.

R1-inspired 5-inch TFT instruments

The new 2023 R125 benefits from the very latest 5-inch full colour TFT instruments inspired by the flagship R1. Two different graphic themes are featured: the rider can select either ‘Street’ theme or ‘Track’ theme to match different riding situations. ‘Street’ theme features a central digital speedometer and a bar-type tachometer as well as an array at the base that includes flasher/main beam/temperature warning lights. ‘Track’ theme is a more focused layout featuring a central lap timer with a 25 lap memory and bar-type tachometer above – providing the rider with key information when they’re on a race circuit.

Both screen themes feature a programmable shift light at the top of the display – and ‘Track’ theme incorporates a programmable rpm meter range, enabling the rider to customise the visuals to match their riding style and individual preferences.

Smartphone connectivity

Staying in touch is now even easier for R125 riders because the 2023 model is equipped with a Communication Control Unit (CCU) that enables smartphone connectivity. To activate the connectivity, the rider’s smartphone firstly needs to be linked to the machine via Bluetooth® using Yamaha’s free MyRide app. As soon as the owner has linked their smartphone, they can see notifications of incoming calls and text messages on the new 5-inch TFT screen, as well as monitor key parameters of the bike via the app.

Riders can also access information including smartphone battery status, and in the event of any technical issue with the R125, the system can notify a Yamaha dealer or any other designated contact that has been selected by the owner.

Traction control system

For the highest level of confidence and control the R125 is equipped with a traction control system. Together with the A&S clutch and the optional quick shift system, the traction control enables the R125 rider to experience a high degree of controllability especially during full throttle acceleration. The status of this switchable system is displayed on the new 5-inch TFT instruments, and it can be turned off to suit certain situations such as track riding.

New R1-inspired upper triple clamp and handlebar switches

Overall feel and appearance of the R125’s cockpit is elevated to a whole new level with the new 5-inch TFT instruments as well as new R1-inspired high quality upper triple clamp that reinforces the bike’s pure R-Series DNA.

The clip-on handlebars are equipped with new R1-inspired ergonomic switches that enable the rider to control intuitively various functions including the new TFT screen theme.

Pre-wired for quickshifter

Every Yamaha R-Series is a race-bred machine that is inspired by the no-compromise spirit of the winning R1M and constructed with the latest race developed technology. The 2023 model is prewired for a quick shifter, making it straightforward for R125 riders to fit a Genuine Yamaha quick shift system that enables seamless full throttle upshifts for stronger acceleration.

Michelin Pilot Street tyres

The 2023 model is equipped with Michelin Pilot Street tyres that have been developed to offer sporty handling together with strong performance in the wet and dry – while their latest tread design offers an excellent grip / wear balance. Running on a 100/80-17 front tyre and a wide 140/70-17 rear tyre, this combination provides the R125 with excellent roadholding and agile cornering.

New connected TFT meters for the best-selling MT-07 & MT-125

With their brutal no-compromise styling, muscular chassis designs and thrilling torque-rich crossplane engine technology, it’s no surprise that Yamaha’s Hyper Naked models have established themselves as the best-selling models in their respective categories.

Inspired by the alternative biking culture characterised by the Dark Side of Japan philosophy, the MT range has achieved 10 years of continued success in the European market. With over 420.000 sold, these Yamaha Hyper Nakeds have created their very own subculture of MT riders who have been inspired by their raw appeal and the ability to deliver stunning real-world performance.

Delivering an impressive mix of super agile handling, outstanding acceleration and uncompromising attitude, the MT line up covers the whole segment from 125cc through to 1000cc, offering a seamless step-up for every rider of any age.

For 2023 this outstandingly successful range is reinforced with higher specification versions of the MT-07 and MT-125. The full lineup is completed with the iconic MT-09 & MT-09 SP and the remarkable MT-10 & MT-10 SP – the most powerful Yamaha Hyper Naked.

2023 MT-07:

New full-colour TFT meter with smartphone connectivity

Having been at the top of the sales charts for a decade, the MT-07 needs little introduction. Suffice to say that the original concept of a torque-rich engine combined with a compact and agile chassis finished off with muscular bodywork has remained fundamentally the same – showing that Yamaha’s designers got it right first time.

MT-07’s core values are much appreciated by Europe’s riders and with sales of over 160.000, this machine is one of the most successful Yamaha motorcycles of all time. Since the original model was introduced in 2014 it has evolved gradually to match the requirements of the market, but Yamaha has always been careful to ensure that the pure and undiluted design of this remarkable middleweight retains its essential character.

Dual theme 5-inch full-colour TFT meter

The 2023 MT-07 features a range of upgrades that enhance the package while remaining true to the basic concept that’s loved by so many riders. The most significant upgrade is the new 5-inch full-colour TFT display that provides a choice of two different screen themes. The Street Theme is a more modern looking layout with a bar-type tachometer at the top and digital speedo and gear selection readouts – while the Touring Theme has a more conventional circular analogue-style tachometer on the right of the screen and digital speedometer on the left.

Smartphone connectivity with MyRide app

By downloading Yamaha’s free MyRide app to their smartphone, riders can connect with the communication control unit on latest MT-07 via Bluetooth® and view incoming call, email and message notifications on the new TFT meter.

If set up accordingly, the system can also notify the rider of any technical issue that may be detected on the MT-07 and can transmit a notification via email to a motorcycle dealer or any other contact that has been designated by the rider.

MyRide app also offers many other useful functions including monitoring all key parameters of the bike, tracking the route taken, as well as recording the distance covered, acceleration, top speed, lean angle and much more. Data can be shared on social media, compared and discussed with other Yamaha Hyper Naked riders on some of the many internet forums and social media groups.

Pre-wired for easy quickshifter fitment

Yamaha’s comprehensive Genuine Accessories line includes numerous stylistic, comfort and performance products that the MT-07 rider can select to upgrade and personalise their machine. To facilitate the fitment of a quickshifter, the latest MT-07 is prewired with the necessary electronics, making it quick and easy to benefit from the thrilling acceleration and seamless gear changes offered by this new Yamaha Genuine Accessory.

Popular with a wide range of customers from A1 license holders through to more experienced riders looking for a characterful lightweight, the MT-125 is upgraded for 2023 with a new 5-inch full-colour TFT screen that gives smartphone connectivity.

The system is identical to the new design featured on the MT-07, however only one display theme is available – Street Theme. After Yamaha’s MyRide app is downloaded to the rider’s smartphone and linked to the MT-125’s communication control unit, riders can view incoming call, email and message notifications on the full colour screen.

If set up accordingly, the system can also notify the rider of any technical issue that may be detected on the MT-125 and can transmit a notification via email to a motorcycle dealer or any other contact that has been designated by the rider.

As well as enabling smartphone connectivity, Yamaha’s free MyRide app also adds another dimension to every ride by recording a range of data on every journey. It enables the rider to review routes taken as well as look at other information regarding the bike’s performance. It’s a great way to learn more about the way they use the bike and remember favourite roads and places they visit – and it’s great for sharing and comparing with like-minded MT riders on social media.

The MT-125 already has a comprehensive specification including a 125cc engine with torque-boosting Variable Valve Actuation, as well as an Assist and Slipper clutch, upside down forks and large diameter disc brakes. 2023 Yamaha Ténéré 700 & Ténéré 700 Rally Edition

Image

Instrument upgrades, smartphone connectivity and ABS refinements

Since its launch in 2019, the Ténéré 700 has achieved outstanding success throughout Europe. With over 40.000 units sold, its special combination of a high torque 690cc CP2 engine with a rugged dual purpose chassis has reaffirmed Yamaha’s position as one of the leading manufacturers of Adventure bikes – and the legendary Ténéré is once again the definitive motorcycle for every explorer and adventure seeker.

The line has been further strengthened with the Ténéré 700 Rally Edition featuring an additional range of premium upgrades that equip it for the toughest terrain – and the recent introduction of the long range Ténéré 700 World Raid has given every rider the possibility to go even further beyond the Next Horizon.

The incredible potential of the Ténéré 700 models has been demonstrated by factory rider and brand ambassador Pol Tarrés who became the first person to ride a 2-cylinder machine in the Erzbergrodeo, outperforming many riders on lightweight enduro machinery.

Pol was joined by Tunisia Desert Challenge winner Alessandro Botturi in the Ténéré World Raid Rally Team for the Africa Eco Race in October. And while the race team blasted through Africa, Nick Sanders has once again demonstrated his remarkable spirit of adventure as well as the class leading performance, durability and reliability of Yamaha’s adventure bike by completing the first circumnavigation of the globe on a Ténéré 700.

For 2023 the Ténéré 700 and Ténéré 700 Rally Edition feature a number of important upgrades and refinements that add value to the overall package and reinforce their position as the world’s leading Adventure machines.

World Raid style 5-inch TFT meter

Both the Ténéré 700 and Ténéré 700 Rally Edition are equipped with new 5-inch TFT meters. This high quality dashboard features a choice of two screen themes to suit different riding situations.

In “Explorer” screen mode the focus is on the RPM scale, enabling the rider to concentrate on maintaining the strongest torque output for effective dirt riding performance. The “Street” screen is a more conventional look with analogue style circular dials. Both screen styles feature a clearly designed layout with easy to read icons and warning lights that enable the rider to stay focused on the road or track in front of them.

Smartphone connectivity

Staying in touch is now even easier for Ténéré riders because the 2023 models are equipped with a Communication Control Unit (CCU) that enables smartphone connectivity. To activate the connectivity, the rider’s smartphone firstly needs to be linked to the machine via Bluetooth® using Yamaha’s free MyRide app. As soon as the owner has linked their smartphone, they can see notifications of incoming calls, emails and text messages on the new 5-inch TFT screen, as well as monitor key parameters of the bike via the app.

If set up accordingly, the system can also notify the rider of any technical issue that may be detected on the Ténéré and can transmit a notification via email to a motorcycle dealer or any other contact that has been designated by the rider.

MyRide app also offers many other useful functions including monitoring all key parameters of the bike, tracking the route taken, as well as recording the distance covered, acceleration, top speed, elevation changes and much more. Data can be shared on social media, compared and discussed with other Yamaha Adventure riders on some of the many internet forums and dedicated social media groups.

Enhanced ABS modes

The previous model’s ABS system offered a choice of ON or OFF modes, and for 2023 both the Ténéré 700 and Ténéré 700 Rally Edition are equipped with an enhanced 3-mode ABS. Already featured on the World Raid model, this improved system enables the rider to select Full ON; Front wheel ON rear wheel OFF; and Full OFF.

Full ON is mandatory when riding on the street, Front wheel ON rear wheel OFF is designed for use in moderate off road riding where grip is not constant, while Full OFF is suitable for more extreme off road riding.

Pre-wired for quickshifter

Ténéré 700 and Ténéré 700 Rally Edition are pre-wired for the fitment of an optional quick shifter system that is now available as a Yamaha Genuine Accessory.

Redesigned front brake lever, new USB socket, LED flashers

For improved durability the front brake lever has been redesigned to withstand accidental damage if the machine falls down. Other upgrades include a new USB socket in place of the previous 12V design, as well as LED flashers.

  • 5-inch dual-theme TFT meter
  • Smartphone connectivity
  • 3-mode ABS
  • New colours and graphics for Ténéré 700 – Icon Blue and Tech Kamo

From the early days, GYTR technology has helped to propel Yamaha Racing Teams to many podiums and successes. Today the connection between motorsport activities development and customers has become even stronger, thanks to a reinforcement strategy to secure Yamaha Racing technology for each customer that is wanting to get the best out of their R-Series machine.

GYTR PRO SHOPS: from Racing to Customers

Winning World Championship titles is not the only ultimate goal. Yamaha is customer-centric, meaning that the brand always aims to offer customers the best service and experience. From that statement, in 2021 Yamaha created the GYTR PRO SHOPS concept: the first and only place that anyone from professional racers to track-day riders can go to for all of their racing needs. It’s where they can connect with racing experts and technicians, get their hands on high-specification components, and have their bikes tuned and customised to the highest level.

There are 17 GYTR PRO SHOPS today across Europe, aiming to expand to 25 within the coming months, and they are all connected to Racing programmes and delivering tailor made solutions for customers’ R1, R6, R7 and R3 bikes. From December 2022, those GYTR PRO SHOPS will be the only place to get the new 2023 R1 GYTR.

2023 R1 GYTR concept

The Yamaha R1 is a proven race bike, winning championships and races at the pinnacle of production bike racing, WorldSBK and national series around the world. Its unique, responsive CP4 engine offers linear torque with an excellent feel, while its distinctive chassis provides unrivalled handling, further enhanced by the KYB 43mm front forks. The IMU electronics package, ride-by-wire throttle, Brake Control and Engine Brake Management further amplifies the smooth riding experience.

Like the R6 GYTR, the new 2023 R1 GYTR is made for racing. The combination of factory modifications, GYTR parts and GYTR PRO SHOP know-how is making the R1 GYTR faster and more fine-tuned than ever. The Yamaha experience doesn’t stop when a customer purchases their bike. GYTR PRO SHOP can offer much more: extra parts, tailor made settings (suspensions, engine, braking, etc.), tips for racing and track days.

For riders who always want more, Yamaha is releasing to the public a very special new racing components range: the GYTR PRO line.

THE GYTR PRO line up: Closer than ever before to the R1 WorldSBK

After the historical Triple Crown in 2021, four Yamaha Racing teams are competing in the FIM Superbike World Championship with the Yamaha R1: the team Toprak Razgatlioglu took the world title with – Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK – as well as GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, GIL Motorsport Yamaha WorldSBK Team and Motoxracing Yamaha WorldSBK Team. All bikes are equipped with GYTR parts to increase the R1’s performance, and components developed by Yamaha Racing engineers specifically for those machines racing at the highest level. Today, Yamaha offer those components, in limited quantities, to all Yamaha racers in GYTR PRO SHOPS.

So customers will be able to build an R1 with all the same parts as the R1 WorldSBK, using the new Yamaha GYTR PRO line up. Yamaha first gave a taste of this special parts line up with the R1 GYTR PRO VR46, offered to Valentino Rossi in 2021 using a combination of parts from GYTR and GYTR PRO future catalogues, and some premium components from Öhlins and Brembo.

There have been 400 parts developed for the total scope of the GYTR PRO line up, with targeted availability through the GYTR PRO SHOPS starting from April 2023.

Some of the key components of the GYTR PRO line up are:

• GYTR PRO Swingarm

PRICING FOR ALL-NEWV-STROM 800DE ANNOUNCED

Pricing for the most off-road ready V-Strom yet, the all-new V-Strom 800DE, has been announced at £10,499.

Powered by Suzuki’s new 776cc, long-stroke, DOHC, parallel twin with a 270° crank, the V-Strom 800DE is born to explore and is equipped with a host of electronic rider aids and chassis features designed to help it tackle the rough stuff, as well as ensure it remains capable and usable on the road, too.

Suzuki’s new powerplant delivers 84.3PS peak power at 8500rpm and 78Nm of peak torque at 6800rpm in the new V-Strom, though riders can choose their preferred power delivery thanks to three selectable engine maps, controlled by a rocker switch on the left handlebar and displayed on a 5-inch colour TFT screen.

Also displayed on the dash in the selected traction control mode, with three on-road modes available to choose from and a G mode, for use off-road, that allows more wheelspin, which is suppressed only enough to help prevent excessive slip, so power continues to be delivered to the rear wheel with minimum interruption. It can also be disengaged completely.

There are also two ABS settings, providing greater or lesser intervention, plus there is the ability to disengage the rear ABS for improved confidence and control off-road, and a bi-directional quickshifter for seamless gear changes.

A new steel frame with bolt-on subframe and aluminium swingarm is suspended by fully-adjustable Showa components providing 220mm of travel and ground clearance. That ground clearance also comes courtesy of 21 and 17-inch wire-spoked wheels, front and back, running tubed Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour tyres. Wide aluminium ‘bars and tough steel footpegs are designed to provide greater control when stood up off-road.

All this is wrapped in unmistakable a new, sharper, taughter incarnation of V-Strom stylinge, complete with a DR-Z-esque beak, and comes in the classic yellow that pays homage to Suzuki’s off-road racing heritage. The V-Strom 800DE is also available in a striking matt grey, with yellow accents, and subtle black, with blue.

It will be in dealerships in the spring.

  1. Introduction

The Vision 110, introduced to Europe in 2012, was created to offer reliable, fun mobility at an attractively low price. And, as a machine intended for daily use by a huge range of customers, qualities such as durability, dependability, safety and convenient usability were considered key priorities.

Thanks to its simple, reliable and efficient air-cooled, fuel-injected ‘enhanced Smart Power (eSP) engine’, stable chassis, the safety of Honda’s Combined Braking System (CBS) and extensive storage space, the Vision 110 has proved to be a smart and reassuring choice in the crowded entry-level scooter market.

And it builds on a proud heritage. The first Honda scooter, the 1954 Juno K, featured a range of new technology and materials, and was followed four years later by the revolutionary four-stroke Super Cub. With more than 100 million manufactured worldwide, the Super Cub is the best-selling motor vehicle in history – and still going strong today.

For 21YM – and set against ever-increasing customer expectations – a brand-new Vision 110 rolled out, using the same base formula set by the outgoing design but smarter, lighter and ever more useful.

For 23YM two new colour choices inject additional appeal, desirability and value to Honda’s everyday scooter.

  1. Model Overview

The Vision 110’s contemporary styling, which includes the convenience of a flat floor, is wrapped around a lightweight enhanced Smart Architecture Frame (eSAF). Producing 6.4kW 9.0Nm @ the enhanced Smart Power eSP) air-cooled engine returns impressive fuel efficiency of 54.5km/l (WMTC mode).

Smart Key operation of ignition and seat is a premium feature, as is the LCD instrument panel.

For 23YM, the Vision 110 will be available in the following colour options:

Pearl Jupiter Gray **NEW**

Matt Suit Blue Metallic **NEW**

Pearl Jasmine White

Matt Galaxy Black Metallic

3.Key Features

3.1 Styling & Equipment

  • Smart body style with flat floored practicality
  • Smart Key operation of ignition and seat
  • Analogue/LCD instrumentation

While it’s designed to be simple, easy transport that does not mean the Vision 110 lacks a feeling of Honda quality and presence and its clean, elegant styling shares common DNA with the rest of Honda’s scooter range.

Like the iconic SH series, the Vision 110 has an upright posture and useful flat floor; it also has plentiful under-seat storage volume, at 17.7L.

Smart Key operation is a premium, and useful, feature. Kept in a pocket, the key controls both ignition and seat locking, adding genuine convenience in support of busy urban life. The instruments comprise analogue speedometer with an LCD information panel.

3.2 Engine

  • Fuel efficient ‘enhanced Smart Power’two-valve, air-cooled SOHC engine
  • Idling Stop technology

The 109.5cc ‘enhanced Smart Power’ (eSP), two-valve air-cooled, fuel-injected SOHC powerplant weighs just 22kg and is both durable and efficient. It delivers a healthy 6.4kW@ 7,500rpm, with peak torque of 9.0Nm @ 5,750rpm. Bore and stroke is set at 47 x 63.1mm, with compression ratio of 10:1.

It’s very easy to use, with crisp throttle response perfect for the urban rider. And it sips fuel, with a range of over 260km possible thanks to the ability to return approximately 54.5km/l (WMTC mode) and 4.9L under-seat fuel tank.

Low friction technologies, like the use of double-cog belts, are found throughout and incorporated into the engine’s architecture. The electronically controlled, brushless ACG starter is an integrated component mounted directly on the end of the crankshaft, serving as starter motor and alternator. It spins the engine directly, eliminating any noise from gear engagement or meshing.

Idling Stop automatically stops the engine running after three seconds at idle when the scooter is stationary, and the brakes applied and re-starts it instantly the throttle grip is twisted. It’s seamless in use thanks to ACG and the swing-back system that returns the crank to its position before air intake, and a decompression mechanism that negates cranking resistance from compression.

3.3 Chassis

  • Enhanced Smart Architecture Frame (eSAF)
  • Stability of 16-inch front wheel and 14” rear wheel
  • 100kg kerb weight

The advanced, lightweight next generation enhanced Smart Architecture Frame (eSAF) is constructed from laser-welded pressed steel, with a carefully engineered rigidity balance. It offers good handling feel, with enhanced stability, ride comfort and durability – perfect for the variety of daily rigours the Vision 110 is designed to endure.

Rake is set at 26° 30’, with 71mm trail and wheelbase of 1,280mm. Kerb weight is just 100kg and the overall result is an outstandingly agile and user-friendly scooter for riders of varying experience and abilities.

Sturdy telescopic forks are matched with a compliant rear shock absorber. The cast-aluminium wheels mount 80/90-16 and 90/90-14 front and rear tyres.

Up front the 220mm hydraulic disc brake links to a rear 130mm drum via CBS, ensuring smooth and evenly distributed braking force at all times, including hard and emergency stops.

  1. Introduction

The PCX125 is one of the quiet success stories of Honda’s two-wheeled line-up, having clocked up sales of over 140,000 units in Europe since its arrival in 2010. Its success is down to a formula Honda has had many years’ experience in perfecting: a strong, modern design that allows it to fit elegantly into a style-conscious urban lifestyle, coupled with compact dimensions that ensure it can plot a path through busy traffic – and be parked – with ease.

Also integral to the formula is an ‘X’ level of Personal Comfort (thus PCX) provided by the sit-in riding position, weather protection, underseat storage for a full-face helmet and all-round build quality. And, not to forget, outstanding value for money (both at purchase and throughout ownership) has always helped underpin the PCX’s popularity.

In 2010, the PCX was the first two-wheeler in Europe to feature Idling Stop technology; two years later it became the first scooter in Europe to use Honda’s ultra-efficient enhanced Smart Power (eSP) engine. For 2016 it gained EURO4 compliance and, in 2018, received a major design update, a new chassis and more power for its engine.

It’s a scooter that’s always moved with the times and in 21YM leapt forward with a new engine and frame combination, increased convenience and comfort, plus a bold evolution of its avant-garde style – retaining its place close to the beating heart of European two-wheeled travel.

For 23YM two suitably chic new colour choices add further to the PCX125’s visual appeal.

2. Model Overview

The PCX125 has a unique presence and is a rolling statement of difference. The bodywork also hides ample under seat storage and floor space; there’s also a USB Type-C charger in the glovebox. A ‘widescreen’ instrument display presents all the vital information and Honda’s Smart Key operates the ignition and seat. All lighting is LED.

The enhanced Smart Power Plus (eSP+) four-valve engine produces 9.2kW power, 11.8Nm torque and returns 47.6km/l (WMTC mode). It features Idling Stop technology and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) maintains rear wheel traction. A tubular steel frame is tough, lightweight and mounts 31mm telescopic front forks and twin rear shocks.

The 23YM PCX125 will be available in the following colour options:

  • Pearl Jupiter Gray **NEW**
  • Matt Suit Blue Metallic **NEW**
  • Pearl Jasmine White
  • Matt Galaxy Black Metallic

3.1 Features

3.1 Styling & Equipment

  • Futuristic bodywork flows as one
  • LED headlight features signature running light
  • 4L storage capacity under the seat; USB charging socket in the glove box
  • Smart Key operation of ignition and seat opening

A consistent design signature of the PCX125 has always been the bodywork – with its strong character line and ‘block’ primary paint colour – flowing together as a whole, front to rear. The front fairing flares in its upper portion but elegantly draws in at the waist; alongside a blacked-out screen this produces improved wind protection without excess bulk. Bold and beautiful, no other scooter has such futuristic style.

Full, premium LED lighting also sets the PCX125 apart from the crowd. The headlight features a signature running light with 5 narrow flash lines positioned in parallel. It’s matched to an X-shaped taillight using multi-optic technology to give an intense, 3D effect.

The seat is contoured for both rider/pillion comfort and easy ground reach; seat height is set at 764mm but is very manageable with a ‘straddling’ height of 540mm.

The swooping lines also hide ample storage capacity under the seat. 30.4L is perfect for a full-face helmet, and more. There’s also a USB Type-C socket in the glovebox, ready to plug a smartphone straight into. Even the fuel filler cap cover features space to store the fuel cap during re-fuelling.

Smart Key operation is also convenient. As well as controlling the main ignition switch knob and compartment locking it can also manage the (optional) 35L removable Smart top box. With the Smart Key in the rider’s pocket the box is unlocked, and automatically locks when the rider walks away. It can also be locked from the key.

A ‘widescreen’ central console instrument layout presents all information neatly and concisely, in an easy-to-read format. An inverted LCD displays the speed, while other information available includes odometer, trip meter, fuel gauge, average fuel consumption and Idling Stop indicator.

Wide, chrome handlebars are also a PCX signature. Mounted in traditional clamps (with newly optimised rubber density) they offer excellent leverage around town and are a neat retro touch. The rear grab rail provides the passenger with comfortable and supportive hand holds while on the move.

3.2 Engine

  • Water-cooled, eSP+four-valve, SOHC
  • Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)
  • Idling Stop

The PCX125’s enhanced Smart Power Plus (eSP+) four-valve, water-cooled SOHC powerplant delivers 9.2kW @ 8,750rpm, with peak torque of 11.8Nm @ 6,500rpm. Bore and stroke is set at 53.5 x 55.5mm with compression ratio of 11.5:1.

It accelerates smartly from a standing start or roll-on, and the PCX will cruise happily around 90km/h. V-max is 98km/h. And, thanks to the engine’s fuel efficiency of approximately 47.6km/l (WMTC mode), and 8.1L tank, range is approximately 385km between fill ups.

Technology to boost rider confidence in wet conditions is Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) which works in the background to deftly manage rear wheel traction. A ‘T’ indicator flickers on the dash when HSTC is actively reducing wheelspin, and the system can be turned off completely.

Honda’s eSP+ low-friction technologies are found throughout the engine; clever packaging of items like the oil pump (which is built into the crankcase) help to further ensure efficiency. A compact combustion chamber and PGM-FI fuel injection – with 28mm diameter throttle body, 2mm larger – optimises burning velocity and cooling performance.

An offset cylinder reduces friction caused by contact between piston and bore, efficiently transmitting combustion energy to the crankshaft. A ‘spiny’ cast-iron sleeve – with tiny surface extensions – keeps in check any distortion of the inner bore diameter. This design lowers tension in the piston ring, reducing friction. A new hydraulic cam chain tensioner further improves engine efficiencies by reducing internal vibrations and improving fuel economy.

Piston oil jets – as used by CRF450R competition MX machine – maintain consistent cooling. This allows ignition timing advances and prevents abnormal combustion, such as ‘knocking’. A hydraulic cam chain tensioner lifter inhibits chain vibration, controls noise and reduces friction.

A high-efficiency radiator – integrated into the exterior of the right-side crankcase – employs a small, light fan reducing frictional losses and lowering drag. Rolling resistance within the transmission unit is reduced by the use of three low-friction main bearings, all designed to deal with the loads they individually receive. An optimised clutch – and pulleys – complement the performance increase.

It has the functionality to ‘read’ the battery charge and turns itself off to avoid excessive drain.

3.3 Chassis

  • Steel frame offers durability with nimble handling
  • Twin rear shocks feature large spring diameter and long stroke, improving comfort
  • Stylish wheels complement the body style

The PCX125 uses duplex steel cradle frame designed to deliver the durability needed for the rigours of urban life, with around-town manoeuvrability, user-friendliness and relaxed riding position.

Wheelbase is set at 1,315mm, with 26° 30’ rake and 80mm trail. Overall kerb weight is 130kg. Both wheels – 14-inch front and 13-inch rear – employ a design that complements the bodywork. Tyre sizes are sized 110/70-14 front and 130/70-13 rear.

The 31mm front forks feature 89mm axle travel, while the rear shock absorbers have 95mm; with springs weighted for a smooth ride on rough city streets. Stopping power is provided by the twin-piston front caliper and 220mm disc, matched to a 130mm rear drum brake; single-channel ABS operates on the front brake.

4.1 Accessories

A range of Genuine Honda Accessories are available for the PCX 125. The main accessories have been combined to form a practical pack for convenience.

The City Pack is intended to enhance the practicality and comfort of the PCX125 without losing any style cues, as accessories are colour-matching to the motorcycle. The pack includes:

  1. Introduction

When embarking on a two-wheeled career, there are certain fundamentals that every rider looks for from their first motorcycle: an easy-to-ride chassis, with engaging real-world engine performance, and super-agile handling. Wrap those fundamentals, however, in distinctive, classy styling and add a host of premium specifications, and the result can be an extra special machine with which to begin a two-wheeled career.

It was for new riders looking for this kind of package that Honda introduced the all-new CB125R in 2017. The smallest member of Honda’s minimalist, bare-boned ‘Neo Sports Café’ family, the CB125R was launched alongside the CB300R and the flagship CB1000R, and represented a bold new, premium addition to the ranks of Honda’s entry level machines.

In 21YM the CB125R received a brand-new, 4 valve engine and major front suspension upgrade, keeping it at the head of a competitive field, and at the top of many young riders’ wish list. For 23YM, visual updates heighten the appeal even further.

  1. Model Overview

The attention-grabbing style of the CB125R is a real standout feature among its peers and sets it apart from the homogeneous crowd.

Peppy and fun to rev, the DOHC 4V engine delivers a healthy 11.0kW power with 11.6Nm torque. And 41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks bring big-bike suspension quality to a small bike. Braking is equally impressive: a 296mm floating front disc is worked by a radial-mount, four-piston caliper with ABS controlled by Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU).

The 23YM CB125R will be available in the following colour options:

  • Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic with new black belly pan, shrouds and front forks
  • Matt Crypton Silver Metallic with new black belly pan and shrouds
  • Candy Chromosphere Red with new black belly pan and shrouds
  • Matt Jeans Blue Metallic with new black belly pan and shrouds

  1. Key Features

3.1 Engine

  • Single-cylinder, DOHC 4V, liquid-cooled
  • 11kW peak power, 11.6Nm peak torque

The CB125R uses its very own EURO5 compliant 125cc, DOHC 4V engine design which produces 11.0kW @ 10,000rpm and 11.6Nm @ 8,000rpm. Top speed is 105km/h, with 0-200m covered in 11.3s. The gearbox is six-speed.

Bore and stroke is set at 57.3 x 48.4mm, with compression ratio of 11.3:1. PGM-FI fuel injection feeds cleanly through the inlet duct, air cleaner connector tube and resonator. The exhaust is underslung and exits through a dual-chamber muffler.

3.2 Chassis

  • 41mm Showa’s Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks
  • Radial-mount 4-piston caliper and hubless 296mm floating front disc
  • ABS works through Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)

Underpinning the CB125R’s minimalism is its tubular and pressed steel construction lattice-style frame. The swingarm is manufactured from steel plate, irregularly shaped in cross-section. Both are designed to achieve high longitudinal rigidity and control torsion from wheel deflection without excess rigidity or weight.

The chassis’ core strength is anchored by the pressed steel swingarm pivot plates and swingarm, allowing the frame to deliver agile handling with stability and feedback; rake and trail are set at 24.2°/90.2mm.

A 51.6% front/48.4% rear weight bias provides a positive feel for front-end grip and easy steering which is also helped by the low, 129.8kg wet weight and compact 1345mm wheelbase. Fat bar-style handlebars turn through 40° and the 2.3m turning circle guarantees easy passage in jammed city traffic. Seat height is 816mm.

41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks use a pressure separation damper in one fork tube and spring mechanism in the other deliver high damper performance and lighter weight. Together with the use of a larger sized piston the result is increased feel, bump absorption and control. The rear monoshock is non-adjustable.

The rest of the running gear comprises a 296mm hubless floating front disc, gripped by a radial-mount Nissin four-piston caliper, the rear 220mm disc a single-piston caliper. Both are modulated by 2-channel ABS. The high specification system works through an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) to give precise front to rear distribution of ABS operation depending on the vehicle behaviour. A 150/60R-17 radial rear tyre is matched to a 110/70R-17 radial front.

3.3 Styling & equipment

  • Industrial minimal styling makes bold visual impact
  • Full LED lighting and LCD instrumentation
  • 1L fuel tank gives 455km range

The CB125R’s styling is unique to the machine and follows the unmistakeable ‘Neo Sports Café’ design language of the CB1000R – minimalist retro styling with a very modern twist – and injects a harder-edged attitude to Honda’s entry level range. The cutaway tail unit is compact in the extreme and holds the rear mudguard mount, which moves from nylon to steel manufacture. Both rider and pillion footpeg hangers are aluminium.

A thin (23.5mm) lightweight (230g) full function LCD instrument display provides speed, engine rpm, fuel level and gear position, with warning lights arrayed across the top. Full LED lighting – including indicators – adds a further premium feel and contributes to mass centralisation. The headlight uses a dual bar light signature, upper for low beam and lower for high beam and the taillight is the thinnest ever mounted on a Honda motorcycle.

The 10.1L fuel tank is hidden underneath an angular cover and shrouds and houses an aircraft-style filler cap. With fuel economy of 45.5km/l (WMTC mode), the CB125R can cover over 455km from full.

RELENTLESS RINS WINS DOWN UNDER

Alex Rins took an emphatic victory at the Australian Grand Prix, coming from 10th on the grid to win a race that will go down as another Phillip Island classic.

In what was the first visit to Australia for the MotoGP circus since the pandemic. Rins made a strong start and got among the leaders with a series of expertly executed overtakes.

.

He hit the front at the halfway stage, but with the top-10 covered by less than two seconds, it was not going to be straightforward.

The lead changed hands again and with three laps to go he was back in third place. However, he made two passes into the Southern Loop, in what had become his signature move after a number during the race, and held on to take the win.

He said of his win, “I’m super happy. During the race I was feeling pretty good, in fact my feeling with the bike was amazing. The pace was fairly slow to try and preserve the rear tyre, because we know this place can be tough on tyres. But in the end, I was able to find some good traction in the sweeping corners and this allowed me to gain places and feel strong until the end, but we had a fantastic battle all together.

“His entire team and everyone who has worked on this project deserves this win, and so do the fans, I’m so pleased that I could celebrate another victory together before we depart.”

THE FINAL FLAG – SUZUKI WAVE GOODBYE TO MOTOGP

THE FINAL FLAG – SUZUKIWAVE GOODBYE TO MOTOGP

The final race weekend of the 2022 MotoGP World Championship season has ended with emotions running especially high for Team Suzuki Ecstar, who bow out – not only from the season, but from the championship.

They did it in spectacular style as Alex Rins led from start to finish in the Valencia GP, taking a whole-hearted victory. Joan Mir showed his usual grit and perseverance to take a solid sixth place.

The team have achieved many great things in the relatively short space of just eight years, with the undoubted highlight being the team and Joan Mir becoming World Champions in 2020.

The journey to the final flag has been quite the adventure, ranging from the very first prototype test in 2012 to the last victory just a few weeks ago in Phillip Island, so instead of dwelling on our exit, we wanted to highlight some of the key moments of our last eight years in MotoGP:

2014: Although the story started under the spotlights of an official MotoGP test in 2013, the wheels weren’t truly rolling until we entered the championship in 2014. Aleix Espargaro arrived at his first day with the team with a statement helmet reading: “The Story Restarts,” and the intention was set.

2015: The first full season back coincided with the 30th anniversary of the legendary GSX-R1000 and a stunning retro livery was unveiled for the riders, Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Viñales. This ‘bedding in’ year resulted in several Top 10 race finishes and 11th and 12th respectively in the championship standings.

2016: The first sweet taste of success came just one year later, with Team Suzuki Ecstar and Maverick Viñales’ first MotoGP victory at Silverstone. The image of Vinales crossing the line, standing high on the pegs with his arms aloft in victorious form gave the team impetus for more moments like this.

2017: The team welcomed a new line-up for 2017, the dynamic duo of Andrea Iannone and MotoGP rookie Alex Rins. It wasn’t smooth sailing for the squad, but with support from the test riders, Sylvain Guintoli and Takuya Tsuda, and the determination of the young riders, a couple of fourth place finishes were achieved.

2018: Suzuki grabbed an impressive nine podiums in the 2018 season with Rins becoming more confident in the class, taking his first MotoGP podium in Argentina. Iannone also put in some impressive rides – especially in Texas where he wore the Stetson with pride from the top step of the podium.

2019: Fast forward a year, and the Circuit of the Americas enjoyed another Suzuki success; this time it was Rins’ turn! This wasn’t to be the only triumph for the number 42 rider though, and in August of 2019 he took an emphatic and thrilling win at Silverstone. A photo of Rins taking the chequered flag, just fractions ahead of Marc Marquez, with the pair eyeing each other up to the finish line has become an absolute classic – not only in the Suzuki history books, but the MotoGP books too. A fast young Mallorcan talent named Joan Mir joined the ranks in 2019 too, showing flashes of excellence in several GPs.

2020: As the world reeled with the emerging pandemic and the MotoGP calendar was left in tatters, Suzuki pulled together and remained focused on racing goals – something which was evident in their month-long stay in Qatar at the start of the season, to protect staff and concentrate on the project. After a slightly rocky start to the season, things soon started to look up for the blue team. Joan Mir put together a sensational season, showing consistency and maturity throughout the year to be crowned MotoGP World Champion and put Suzuki back in the spotlight after 20 years. Coupled with Alex Rins’ impressive form which saw him finish third in the standings, this was truly the ‘comeback’ year for Suzuki – a feat made even more special as the factory celebrated 100 years since their founding, and 60 years in racing.

2021: Entering the year as reigning champions, and with the tried and tested line-up of Rins and Mir, the goal was once again to contend for podiums, wins, and the best championship positions possible. What the team lacked in luck that year, they made up for in tenacity. Rins had a tough year, although a second place at his beloved Silverstone gave a much-needed boost. Mir clocked six podiums through the year, and his consistency gained him third place in the standings at the close of the season.

2022: The final flag. It goes without saying that the highlight of the year for us was Rins’ heartfelt and thought-provoking final Suzuki victory in Valencia – a fantastic reward for the hard work and strong-will shown by the team. Although his nail-biting and ferocious run to the top step in Australia is a close contender. Mir also put in many brave and determined displays. We pulled together for every session of the season, and we stand strong together as we reach the final flag.

Alex Rins: “Well, I managed to achieve exactly what I wanted: another win with my team. This one, being at home and being our last together tastes extra special and it’s very emotional. Over the years Suzuki and I have celebrated some really beautiful victories, but also shared many beautiful moments as a family. I’ll miss everybody so much, and I’ll carry the lessons with me for the rest of my career.”

Joan Mir: “I’m happy to take a pretty solid finish in my final race with Suzuki, especially after a tough few weeks. Winning a title with this team is something I’ll keep in my heart forever, we’ve worked relentlessly during all our years together, but in 2020 everything just came together for us and it was simply fantastic. Thank you to the whole team for their help.”

Livio Suppo: “What more could we ask for? The only thing better would have been a double podium. But Alex showed, once again, how competitive he and our bike are. And Joan did a great job. My time with Suzuki has been short but very sweet. Working with an iconic brand, with superb people, and a great bike has been a big pleasure for me, and I think we can bow out with our heads high.”

Ken Kawauchi: “Today Alex did a very impressive job, getting the holeshot and leading the whole race, thank you to him for this final victory, and also to Joan for a nice sixth place. Finally, thank you also to all the staff for their work during all the years. We have been a very good group of people, and we always tried hard to get the best results.”

Shinichi Sahara: “Victory today in Valencia! What a great reward for the team. I’m very proud of the staff, the riders, the engineers in Japan – not only for today but for the whole season. We had a fighting spirit until the end, and we leave with a World Title and many victories and podiums.”

SUZUKI LAUNCHES INDUSTRY-FIRST ACCIDENT AFTERCARE PROGRAMME

Suzuki has launched its new motorcycle accident aftercare programme, an entirely free service for all customers, regardless of age of machine, that aims to make dealing with the aftermath of an accident or theft as smooth and as pain-free as possible. The programme provides riders with a single point of contact and will handle everything from liaising with insurance providers and recovery of the motorbike, right through to the repair at an authorised Suzuki dealership using only Suzuki Genuine Parts.

The service is a motorcycle industry first, and by helping to remove a lot of the stress from what is already a high-stress situation, it highlights Suzuki’s ongoing commitment to its customers past the new motorcycle point of sale.

With no sign-up required, any Suzuki owner involved in an accident – regardless of their insurer – can benefit from the service by calling Suzuki First, a dedicated call centre available 24 hours a day. From there, the entire claims process, recovery, and repair, will be handled on the owner’s behalf. Suzuki First will also be there if the motorcycle is stolen.

Jacob Lewis, Suzuki GB’s customer retention manager, commented, We pride ourselves on our level of aftersales care at Suzuki, and I think our customers will agree we put a great deal of effort into things like our Suzuki Service Promise and our Vintage Parts Programme. Now, we’re really pleased to be able to further demonstrate our commitment to Suzuki owners with the Suzuki Accident Aftercare programme. Sometimes accidents happen and we know how stressful it is managing the fallout, arranging recovery and dealing with insurance companies.

“We aim to make this process as easy as it can be, by handling everything on the owner’s behalf. Not only that, by managing the process we can ensure that their Suzuki is repaired to the highest possible standard, using Suzuki Genuine Parts and by fully trained and experienced Suzuki technicians. And best of all it is completely free, there is no charge to the owner. All they need to do is call Suzuki First and we’ll take it from there.”

SUZUKI BRINGING CHAMPIONSHIP-WINNING SUPERBIKES TO STAFFORD

Suzuki is bringing championship-winning superbikes to this week’s Stafford Classic Bike Show – which takes place on 15-16 October at the Staffordshire County Showground – with Troy Corser’s World Superbike-winning GSX-R1000 K5 on display next to John Reynolds’ 2004 British Superbike title-winning machine.

The two iconic superbikes, in their Corona Suzuki and Rizla Suzuki liveries from the period, will be on display in the show’s new 90s and 00s hall, with Reynolds himself present for the duration of the show. The GSX-R750 SRAD ridden by Michael Dunlop at this year’s Manx GP will also feature.

Other classic Suzukis on display include the TL1000S that was out of brand new parts in 2014, thanks to Suzuki’s Vintage Parts Programme, and a GSX-R1100L and Bandit 600 that were both restored by apprentices at the Suzuki Apprentice Centre in Doncaster. Also on show is a DR Big and a GSX1000SZ Katana, one of only 166 imported into the UK in 1981.

Alongside the classic fleet the latest Katana will head a display of modern machines, which will also include the third generation Hayabusa and the new GSX-S1000GT sports tourer.

Support over the course of the event will be Vintage Parts Programme specialists, Robinsons Foundry, as well as representatives from Suzuki Insurance and Motul.

  1. Introduction

Honda’s fully faired CBR650F, launched in 2014 alongside the naked CB650F, provided a healthy slice of four-cylinder middleweight performance, very much at the sporty end of the ‘sports touring’ spectrum. Five years later, the CBR650F became the CBR650R, the upgrade from ‘F’ to ‘R’ indicating an even more potent shot of sporty ability designed to be explored, used and enjoyed on the street.

In the process of its transformation the CBR650R became, deliberately, a rare breed: a four-cylinder sports bike that provides similar pleasure, enjoyment and adrenaline to an RR machine, yet with enough practicality – and sensible running costs – to make it a viable option as day-to-day transport in addition to weekend fun.

It’s a direction that’s been well received. In 2021, the CBR650R was the best-selling sports bike in Europe. The 21YM version continued the development curve with user-driven detail improvements and a major upgrade for the front suspension.

For 23YM the CBR650R gains aesthetic updates to both colour options that further enhance its road presence and desirability.

2. Model Overview

The CB650R received a significant refresh for 21YM. The major news was application of 41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston (SSF-BP) USD forks – high quality suspension that really elevates the bike’s handling ability.

EURO5 compliance for the engine was achieved with no loss of top end power; other detail improvements included improved visibility for the LCD display and USB Type-C charging socket under the seat. The headlight reflectors, side panels and rear mudguard were all also updated.

The 23YM CBR650R will be available in two colour options:

Mat Gunpowder Black Metallic with new black engine and cam covers, blue highlights and red shock spring

Grand Prix Red with new black engine and cam covers, black belly pan and front mudguard and red Honda logo and shock spring

3. Key Features

3.1 Chassis

  • 41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks
  • Four-piston, radial-mount front brake calipers and floating discs
  • 120/70-ZR17 and 180/55-ZR17 front and rear tyres

The steel diamond frame uses pressed swingarm pivot plates and twin elliptical spars with a rigidity balance specifically tuned (stiffer around the headstock and more flexible in the spar sections) to deliver balanced handling characteristics, with high levels of rider feedback. Rake is set at 25.5° with trail of 101mm and wheelbase of 1,450mm. Kerb weight is 208kg.

Showa’s 41mm Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks offer high-quality reaction. A pressure separation damper in one fork tube and spring mechanism in the other deliver high damping performance and lighter weight. Together with the use of a larger sized piston the result is increased feel, bump absorption and control. Adjustable for 10-stage spring preload, the single-tube monoshock (with its spring now finished in red) operates directly on the curvaceous gravity die-cast aluminium swingarm.

Four-piston radial-mount front brake calipers work 310mm wave-pattern floating discs, and are paired with a single-piston rear caliper and 240mm disc. The ABS is a two-channel system.

Cast aluminium wheels mount 120/70-ZR17 and 180/55-ZR17 front and rear tyres.

3.2 Styling & equipment

  • Minimal panels and rear mudguard/number plate mount
  • LCD display easy to read
  • USB Type-C socket under the seat
  • New visual updates or both colours including new all black engine cases and cam cover

With its four-cylinder power unit clearly on display the CBR650R’s wrapping ramps up pure sporting appeal; dual LED headlights emit an uncompromising stare, and the upper and lower fairings blend muscularity with slim lines and angles.

The seat unit, too is compact and truncates the rear of the machine, adding to the hard-edged sense of purpose. Trim side panels accentuate the minimalism, as does the steel rear mudguard/number plate mount.

The aggressive riding position starts with clip-on handlebars that mount beneath the top yoke, matched to rear set footpegs. There’s also a USB Type-C socket located under the seat, for easy charging of a mobile device. Seat height is set at 810mm.

Stylish, easy-to-read LCD instruments include Shift-Up, Gear Position and Peak Hold indicators.

For 23YM, both colour options receive visual updates including new all black engine and cam covers. The Mat Gunpowder Black Metallic features new blue highlights on the tank, tail and fairing, and a new red shock spring. The Grand Prix Red features a new black front mudguard and a new black belly pan that features a bold red Honda logo that chimes neatly with the new red fork spring.

3.3 Engine

  • 70kW peak power, 63Nm peak torque with 35kW A2 licence option
  • Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)
  • Assist/slipper clutch

The 649cc, DOHC 16-valve engine is tuned to create the purest, most enjoyable mid-sized four-cylinder performance possible, with the classically fast ‘pick-up’ through the rev range and hard-hitting, high-revving top-end for which Honda’s in-line’s fours are renowned. Peak power of 70kW arrives @ 12,000rpm with peak torque @ 63Nm delivered at 9,500 rpm. A 35kW option is available for A2 licence holders.

Direct cam actuation makes for a compact cylinder head; bore and stroke is set at 67mm x 46mm with compression ratio of 11.6:1. Iridium spark plugs are employed and twin air ducts – either side of the fuel tank – feed the airbox and produce a throaty intake roar.

Asymmetric piston skirts minimise bore contact and reduce friction. Ferrous spines on the outer surface of the cylinder sleeves reduce oil consumption (and friction) with improved heat transfer and a silent SV cam chain reduces frictional losses by using a Vanadium coating on its pins. Internal water channelling from cylinder head to cylinders does away with most of the exterior hoses.

The engine uses a compact internal architecture, stacked six-speed gearbox and starter layout with the cylinders canted forward 30°. An assist/slipper clutch eases upshifts while managing rear-wheel lock up under hard braking and rapid downshifts. Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) manages rear wheel traction; it can be turned off should the rider choose.

Fuel consumption of 20.4km/l (WMTC mode) gives a range of over 300km from the 15.4L

fuel tank. EURO5 compliance required revisions to the ECU, cam lobes, intake timing, exhaust pipe, catalyser and silencer, as well as the addition of a crank pulsar.

4. Accessories

A range of Genuine Honda Accessories are available for the CBR650R, both available as individual items and grouped in packs, that are ready to bolt straight on to the bike:

The Sport Pack enhances the dynamism and sportiness of the motorcycle by featuring the following accessories:

  1. Introduction

Honda has always thrived on exploring new boundaries – in design as well as engineering. In 18YM, the CB1000R, CB300R and CB125R brought a fresh identity to its naked motorcycle line-up, mixing café racer inspirations with a forward-looking ultra-minimalist look under the ‘Neo Sports Café’ design theme.

One segment remained for the new aesthetic to find expression: the hugely competitive naked middleweight arena and, in 19YM, the CB650R confidently took on this role. Aimed at a young demographic that looks to show off in style and enjoy to the maximum a combination of exhilarating four-cylinder engine performance and light, versatile, refined chassis handling, it has proved a great success.

Building on the momentum, in 21YM the CB650R received a major front suspension upgrade, plus a range of detail improvements to enhance comfort, usability and practicality.

Valerio Aiello, of Honda’s Rome R&D Department on the Neo Sports Café design aesthetic:

“The entire current Neo Sport Café range from Honda is the result of the CB4 Concept model presented at EICMA in 2015. Our desire was to explore the world of the café racer and reinterpret it in a modern key.

All the models of this CB series are not simply retro-vintage motorcycles, but rather neo-classics – that is, modern motorbikes showcasing classic design styles combined with modern techniques.

We wanted to create a new stylistic dimension, different from the muscular streetfighters of the last few years, and at the same time, far from the simpler café-racer style. The end result is that none of the bikes from the competition resemble the Neo Sports Café range and, like them or not, they are easily recognisable as Hondas. The competitors have classic or very modern motorcycles in their ranges, but in my opinion, not something that goes in the wake of both styles.

During development of the CB4 concept, I found inspiration from outside the world of motorcycles, in watches. I’ve always liked their technicality and one of the key concepts used during the Neo Sports Café design was 'Mechanical Art'.

‘Mechanical Art’ is the desire to show the beauty of the various mechanical elements to which Honda has always given great importance. Watches do this very well indeed, with their mechanics always creating a certain charm.”

2.Model Overview

The CB650R received a significant refresh for 21YM. The major news was the application of 41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston (SSF-BP) USD forks – high quality suspension that really elevate handling ability.

EURO5 compliance for the engine was achieved with no loss of top end power; other detail improvements included slightly more forward-set handlebars, improved visibility for the LCD display and USB Type-C charging socket under the seat. New side panels and rear mudguard were also minor cosmetic changes.

For 23YM, the CB650R will be available in the following colour options:

**NEW** Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic

**NEW** Matt Dim Gray Metallic

Candy Chromosphere Red

Mat Jeans Blue Metallic

3.Key Features

3.1 Chassis

  • 41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks
  • Four-piston, radial-mount front brake calipers and floating discs
  • 120/70-ZR17 and 180/55-ZR17 front and rear tyres

The CB650R’s steel diamond frame uses pressed swingarm pivot plates and twin elliptical spars with a rigidity balance specifically tuned (stiffer around the headstock and more flexible in the spar sections) to deliver balanced handling characteristics, with high levels of rider feedback. Rake is set at 25.5° with trail of 101mm and wheelbase of 1,450mm. Kerb weight is 202.5kg.

Adjustable for 10-stage spring preload, the single-tube monoshock (now finished in red on the standard bike) operates directly on the curvaceous gravity die-cast aluminium swingarm.

  • Minimal side panels and rear mudguard/number plate mount
  • Handlebar angled for effortless low-speed manoeuvring
  • LCD display easy to read; USB Type-C socket under the seat
  • Two new colour options

Tightly wrapped and aggressive, the CB650R’s Neo Sports Café style features the signature compact ‘Trapezoid’ proportion of short, stubby tail and short overhang headlight. The long fuel tank is a key motif of the family design; its smooth lines accentuate the solidity of real metal surfaces and crown the engineering of the four-cylinder powerplant. It also houses the ignition.

A 35° handlebar angle makes tight, slow-speed turns and U-turns straightforward. Compact side panels accentuate the minimalism, as does the steel rear mudguard. There’s a USB Type-C socket located under the seat, for easy charging of a mobile device; seat height is set at 810mm.

The round headlight is one of the key words of the Neo Sports Café design language. It’s LED, as is the rest of the lighting. Sharp LCD instruments use the CB1000R as a baseline and include Shift Up, Gear Position and Peak Hold indicators.

For 23YM, the CB650R will be available Candy Chromosphere Red, Matt Jeans Blue Metallic and all new Matt Dim Gray Metallic and all new Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic, which itself is enhanced further with all black detailing throughout including the cam cover, fork stanchions, side shrouds, levers and and footpegs.

3.3 Engine

  • 70kW peak power, 63Nm peak torque with 35kW A2 licence option
  • Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)

The 649cc, DOHC 16-valve engine is tuned to create the purest, most enjoyable mid-sized four-cylinder performance possible, with the classically fast ‘pick-up’ through the rev range and hard-hitting, high-revving top end for which Honda’s in-line’s fours are renowned. Peak power of 70kW arrives @ 12,000rpm with peak torque @ 63Nm delivered at 9,500 rpm. A 35kW option is available for A2 licence holders.

Direct cam actuation makes for a compact cylinder head; bore and stroke is set at 67mm x 46mm with compression ratio raised of 11.6:1.

Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) is fitted to manage rear wheel traction; it can be turned off should the rider choose.

  1. Introduction

It’s not often in the world of motorcycling that a fresh line of thinking emerges to create a new breed of machine. But Honda specializes in innovation and for 16YM unveiled a completely new concept, straight out of left field – the X-ADV.

The thought processes that led to its birth? Consider the attributes of the average adventure-style motorcycle – tough ‘go-anywhere’ appeal, an upright riding position giving superb visibility and remarkable all-round usefulness, work or play. Then take a look at the typical commuter: it might be a scooter or motorcycle, but in either case it will be easy to manage, nimble and loaded with convenience, efficiency and useful storage space. Honda’s forward-thinking engineers combined the two together, and something special happened.

The machine they created had a rugged, stylish SUV image fully at home navigating the urban sprawl. And while it was loaded with all of the premium features that enable easy life in the big city, it also had the looks, engine power and chassis ability to inject every ride with the promise of adventure.

The X-ADV captured the essence of two-wheeled freedom in an exciting new form and garnered the attention of an army of riders around Europe, eager for something new, and has proved itself a genuine sales success. And, proving its off-road credentials, in the hands of seasoned Italian racer Renato Zocchi a lightly modified version took overall Class 2 victory in the gruelling 7,000km 2019 Gibraltar Rally.

And it has not stood still. In 21YM Honda upped the X-ADV’s engine performance, trimmed weight, enhanced style and added even more usefulness.

In 2022 the X-ADV was Honda’s third best-selling motorcycle over 350cc and since its introduction to the line-up, nearly 60,000 have been sold across Europe.

With the introduction of two Special Editions and a new colour option for 24YM, the X-ADV continues to cement its position as one of the coolest and most desirable two-wheelers available in Europe today.

 2. Model Overview

The parallel twin-cylinder engine blends strong low-to mid-range performance with easy manners and excellent fuel efficiency. Peak power is set at 43.1kW with an impressive 69Nm torque. Throttle By Wire (TBW) serves 4 default rider modes plus a custom USER choice, while Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) features refined input over 3 levels. The Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) has Automatic shifting schedules that integrate with the riding modes, as well as USER input.

A tough chassis is comprised of a tubular steel frame, 41mm USD front forks, rear monoshock (with Pro-Link) and aluminium swingarm. A 17-inch front wheel is matched to a 15-inch rear with dual, radial-mount four-piston calipers braking up front.

The bodywork has a sharp, aggressive edge; dual LED headlights also feature Daytime Running Lights (DRL), as used by the CRF1100L Africa Twin, improving visibility to other road users. For easy ground reach the seat is carefully contoured at the shoulders. The under-seat storage has a 22L volume and also houses a USB-C charging point; there’s also a useful glovebox. In addition to rider mode information, the TFT instrument display is also the interface for information relating to the Honda Smartphone Voice Control system.

The 24YM X-ADV will be available in the following colour options:

**NEW** Iridium Gray Metallic Special Edition with graphite black trim and yellow highlights

**NEW** Grand Prix Red Special Edition with graphite black trim

**NEW** Puco Blue with graphite black trim

Mat Ballistic Black Metallic with graphite black trim

  1. Key Features

3.1 Engine

  • Throttle By Wire control; peak power figure of 43.1kW with 69Nm torque
  • 6l/100km fuel efficiency
  • 35kW A2 licence version available

The design of the X-ADV’s liquid-cooled, SOHC 8-valve parallel twin-cylinder engine ensures punchy performance in the low-to-mid range. Its relatively long-stroke architecture and specially shaped combustion chambers combine with the high-inertial mass crankshaft to produce large amounts of effortless torque from very low rpm. A forward cant brings the centre of gravity down for optimum stability.

Peak power is set at 43.1kW @ 6,750rpm, with maximum torque of 69Nm @ 4,750rpm. From 30 km/h the X-ADV will cover 20m in 1.7s, 50m in 3.2s, while at 60km/h the torquey engine is turning at just 2,500rpm.

For A2 licence holders a 35kW version is available, which can be easily converted to the full power version by a Honda dealer at the appropriate time. Equally, it is possible to restrict the full power version to 35kW by a Honda dealer remapping the ECU.

Twin balancers counteract vibration from higher rpm inertia without affecting the distinct ‘throb’ delivered by the engine’s irregular firing order and 270° phased crankshaft. Bore and stroke is set at 77 x 80mm. Where possible components are made to do more than one job: the camshaft drives the water pump, while one of the balancer shafts drives the oil pump.

By keeping the number of parts to a minimum in this way, the engine is kept light, efficient and reliable.

The X-ADV engine also sips fuel – with a measured consumption of 27.8km/l (WMTC mode) providing a potential 366km range from the 13.2-litre fuel tank.

3.2 Engine Electronics

  • Throttle By Wire delivers 4 default riding modes, plus USER customisation
  • Honda Selectable Torque Control features 3 levels of intervention

With TBW managing engine performance and character there are 4 modes for the rider to choose from, covering all riding conditions. Mode selection is managed by the left-hand switchgear.

STANDARD delivers a balanced middle point between engine power delivery, engine braking and HSTC intervention, with the strongest level of ABS intervention.

SPORT gives more aggressive engine power delivery and engine braking, with low HSTC intervention, high ABS.

RAIN transmits low engine power delivery and engine braking, high HSTC and ABS input.

GRAVEL employs high power and engine braking with low HSTC and ABS.

USER offers custom options of low/medium/high between engine power delivery and engine braking and low/medium/high/off for HSTC.

Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) offers refined control as it uses TBW to manage torque delivered to the rear wheel, with 3 levels of input:

Level 1 allows the minimum intervention for some rear wheel spin – on gravel or dirt for instance, and its level of intervention is reduced from the previous design.

Level 2 is the default setting and provides confidence-inspiring traction for general riding conditions.

Level 3 provides maximum control for slippery roads.

HSTC can also be switched OFF.

3.3 Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT

  • Differing shifting schedules link with riding modes
  • USER mode allows choice of 4 settings, from smooth to aggressive

Honda’s DCT technology is now in its 14th year of production, and over 230,000 units of DCT-equipped Honda two-wheelers have been sold in Europe since 2010. It delivers consistent, seamless gear changes up or down and very quickly becomes second nature in use. It uses two clutches: one for start-up and 1st, 3rd and 5th, the other for 2nd, 4th and 6th, with the mainshaft for each clutch located inside the other for compact packaging.

Each clutch is independently controlled by its own electro-hydraulic circuit. When a gear change occurs, the system pre-selects the target gear using the clutch not currently in use. The first clutch is then electronically disengaged as, simultaneously, the second clutch engages.

The result is a consistent, fast and seamless gear change. Furthermore, as the twin clutches transfer drive from one gear to the next with minimal interruption of the drive to the rear wheel, any gear change shock and pitching of the machine is minimised, making the change feel direct as well as smooth. Extra benefits include durability (as the gears cannot be damaged by missing a gear) impossibility of stalling, low stress urban riding, reduced rider fatigue and extra ‘brain space’ to concentrate on pure riding aspects such as riding line, cornering, braking and acceleration points.

The DCT system offers two distinct riding approaches – the Automatic settings, with pre-programmed shift patterns which constantly read vehicle speed, gear selected and engine rpm to decide when a shift should occur, and the Manual Transmission setting for gear changes using the paddle-shift style triggers on the left handlebar.

Through TBW control there are 5 Automatic shifting schedules available. Level 1 is the most relaxed, with upshifts and downshifts operating at relatively lower rpm; it is linked with the RAIN riding mode. Level 4, on the other extreme, shifts up at higher rpm and also downshifts earlier for more engine braking effect; it is linked with the SPORT mode. Level 2 is linked with STANDARD riding mode, with Level 3 situated between STANDARD and SPORT.

For the GRAVEL riding mode, the X-ADV uses the relatively sporty ‘G’ shifting pattern; this has the added functionality of a decreased level of ‘slip’ as the clutches operate from a fully open or closed throttle – to give the rider more direct feel for traction at the rear wheel, and the ability to perform controlled sliding off road. Whereas this functionality was previously activated by the separate G Switch, it is now integrated into the new ‘G’ shift pattern of the DCT.

The USER mode functionality allows the rider to select any of the DCT shift patterns with the preferred permutations of the other parameters – power delivery, engine braking, ABS and HSTC.

3.4 Styling & Equipment

  • Sharp, slim and aggressive SUV styling
  • Honda Smartphone Voice Control System offers smartphone link through 5-inch TFT display
  • Twin LED headlights include Daytime Running Lights
  • Large 22L storage space includes a glovebox, and houses a USB-C charger

The X-ADV’s unique head-turning styling (conceived and developed by Honda’s R&D team in Italy) evolved for 21YM to become slimmer and sharper; the silhouette deliberately upright, with each body-panel honed with strong intent.

Dual LED headlights feature Daytime Running Lights (DRL) that automatically adjust to ambient light intensity and give a bright, highly visible light improving safety. All lighting is LED.

In terms of ergonomics, the 820mm seat height (shaped for easy ground reach) and wide handlebar set at 910mm ensure a high eye point, giving great visibility. For commuting or touring, the X-ADV’s screen adjusts without tools through 5 positions from low-to-high to maximise or minimise airflow. The total height difference is 139mm, with an 11° rake between the highest and lowest points.

Incorporated into the X-ADV’s rider interface and viewed through the 5-inch TFT display is the Honda Smartphone Voice Control System (HSVCs), which links the rider to their smartphone while on the move and allows voice management of phone calls, email, music and navigation. A helmet-mounted headset is needed, and the smartphone connects to the dash via Bluetooth; management of the system is also possible through buttons on the left switchgear.

Tough plastic hand guards deflect wind and rain, while adding protection for hands and levers from stones when off-road. A shot-peened 2.5mm thick aluminium bash plate guards the underside.

The under-seat 22L luggage space accommodates a full-face helmet and is lit with an integral LED, whose textured surface delivers uniform illumination without glare. A USB-C charging socket is located at the rear of the compartment. A centre stand – with tilt sensor – is fitted as standard and allows the X-ADV to be parked on an incline without fear of toppling.

For added convenience the X-ADV uses a Smart Key, which lives in the rider’s pocket and does away with the need to use a key for ignition, fuel cap and seat. With the Smart Key present one push of the knob-type main switch powers it up and makes it possible to turn, giving the rider control of the ignition/steering lock and, via two rocker switches, the fuel cap and seat. It also has an ‘answer back’ function, which makes the indicators flash for easy identification from a distance, and locks and unlocks the optional Smart Top Box. A clutch mechanism in the main switch stops the handlebars unlocking by force.

The X-ADV’s rear indicators also have a self-cancelling Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) function. If negative acceleration of 6.0m/s2 is detected at a minimum speed of 53km/h with either brake working, the hazard lights flash to warn other road users a hard stop is in process. At the same speed the threshold is reduced if ABS is activated to a negative acceleration of a minimum 2.5m/s2

The indicators also auto-cancel. Rather than using a simple timer, the system compares front and rear wheel speed difference and calculates when to cancel the indication relative to the situation.

3.5 Chassis

  • Lightweight tubular steel diamond frame
  • 41mm cartridge-style USD fork and Pro-Link swingarm
  • Radial mount four-piston front brake calipers, 296mm discs and ABS
  • 120/70 R17 and 160/60 R15 front and rear tyres

The X-ADV’s tubular steel diamond frame is light and strong and makes ample space for the under-seat compartment. Rake and trail are set at 27°/104mm with wheelbase of 1590mm. A 39° steering angle (and turning radius of 2.8m) makes the X-ADV manoeuvrable in tight traffic. Long travel suspension –153.5mm up front and 150mm from the rear – is matched to 165mm of ground clearance. Overall wet weight is 236kg.

For handling rough terrain, the 41mm cartridge-type USD fork adjusts for spring preload and rebound damping. The spring preload adjustable rear shock is a single tube split pressure design and operates the aluminium swingarm – constructed from a machined-hollow cross member and U-shaped (in cross section) arms – through Pro-Link.

The 17-inch front wheel and 15-inch rear use stainless steel rust-resistant spokes and contribute to the X-ADV’s ability to comfortably soak up rough terrain. Block-pattern tyres add to the ride quality and L-shape valve stems make checking air pressure easy. Tyres are sized 120/70 R17 and 160/60 R15 front and rear.

Dual radial-mount opposed four-piston calipers grip 296mm discs and work through ABS.
